Teach the Youth

It’s wonderful to have inherited Democracy but we must teach everyone, especially the youth, how to keep it.

Asserting our rights

Democracy is when people have the right to know why others have more than what is due them, and demand a truthful explanation.

It is also when the poor and marginalized are able to assert their rights, and win them.

Democracy is equality and freedom that goes beyond what is written on paper

“Democracy is equality and freedom that goes beyond what is written on paper, determined by an elite few.  It is freedom that can be felt tangibly i.e. more options that economic freedom provides, empowerment that enables one to make informed decisions for himself.   A country where money and education are limited to the few can never claim to be democratic. “

It represents the dreams and aspirations of the Filipino people

“Ang demokrasya ay dilaw.  It represents the dreams and aspirations of the Filipino people.  It symbolizes the men and women who continue to believe in and fight for freedom, honesty and unwavering faith.”

Democracy is a government in which the supreme power is held by the people

“Democracy is a government in which the supreme power is held by the people.  The image I can see as to how to strengthen democracy in the Philippines is by making better the education system.  Education can be a powerful tool for the development of a nation.  But we still see a system full of social inequity to the disadvantage of the poor.  Knowledge and learning should benefit the people. These inequities should be changed However, the change must begin with ourselves.  We must bring to bear our knowledge and skills to make democracy work well.”

“Unstable societal condition”

Democracy is an unstable societal condition but it is where persons are more likely to fully realize their potentials as human beings and as citizens. It is made firm by only effective citizen vigilance that extract accountability from all those who represent or tasked to represent others whether as public servants or heads of private organizations.

Democracy is when people work together

Democracy is when people work together to achieve shared vision. When everybody becomes part of the the force that make things happen and benefit justly from it. Where people and government, citizenship and leadership are one, that’s where democracy is.
